Research and development, business, technology, and the protection and commercialization of intellectual property assets are all endeavors closely tied to all things international. To achieve maximum commercial success in a global marketplace, intellectual property holders must take consideration of and act with respect to markets, businesses, competitors, technologies, and consumers far beyond the borders of their own domestic markets. International protection and commercialization of IP assets is now a must for achieving success and maximizing income, especially in knowledge-based industries.

The problem, however, is that the vast majority of companies, researchers, inventors, business professionals, investors, and legal professionals are, at best, equipped to act regionally - not internationally. And even if active internationally, the majority are most familiar with people, institutions, companies, technologies, and networks limited to their own regions, their own professional circles, and their own highly-specialized areas of expertise.
